The Biologists Association announced that an event will be held at the KTOEÖS Conference Hall on Monday, April 17, at 18.00, to talk about the effects of plastic pollution on health and the environment.

Assoc. Dr. Sedat Gündoğdu’s book presentation and signing day will also be held at the event, and certificates will be given to the participants.

In the statement made by Hatice Benan on behalf of the Board of Directors of the Biologists Association, it was said, “We now encounter plastics that pollute the environment such as soil, air and water in all living spaces on earth as microplastics in our blood, in the placentas of unborn babies and in our organs.”

In the statement, it was stated that the plastics that start to break down into microplastics and nanoplastics in the environment they enter are in the food they eat, the water they drink and even in every breath they take.

“The law that will come into force at the beginning of June states that plastic bags that are expressed as very light (presumably below 15 microns) are exempted, but plastic bags over 15 microns and, for example, single-use plastics used in the food industry will be banned.

As the Association of Biologists, we think that it is essential not to sell plastic bags for a fee, but to ban them completely, to minimize their use, to replace single-use plastic products with alternatives, and accordingly to protect the environment and public health, and we find the law pleasing.”
