‘The Phantom of the Opera’ Ends 35-Year Run on Broadway.

After 35 years of performances, “The Phantom of the Opera” musical held its last screening. Originally planned for February, the screening was delayed due to increased demand. The last screening featured both old and new actors who had participated in the musical over the course of its run. Lead actor Howard McGillin, who gave life to the Phantom character for the longest time in more than 2,500 plays, became emotional during the exhibition, stating, “We are all part of this family and always will be. This is a wonderful thing.” The musical’s composer, Andrew Lloyd Webber, dedicated the final performance to his son, Nick, who passed away at the age of 43. During the course of its run, “The Phantom of the Opera” won seven Tony Awards and was performed 13,981 times on Broadway. The musical is still being screened in London and will celebrate its 36th anniversary in October.
