
“The Symbolic Role of Our Artists in Land Struggles”

President Ersin Tatar presented the “Lifetime Service Award with Culture and Art” to artists on April 15, World Art Day, at the İsmet Vehit Güney Art Center. The award ceremony was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister, Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Environment Directorate of Culture Department.
In his speech, President Tatar expressed his pleasure in attending such a significant ceremony and reiterated his dedication to culture, art, and literature. He also mentioned that his wife, Sibel Tatar, is actively involved in various artistic activities that significantly contribute to the promotion of culture and art in the country.
President Tatar emphasized that cultural activities play a crucial role in maintaining the Turkish Cypriot presence in the country and its political struggle. He also acknowledged that there are two different peoples in Cyprus, each with its own culture, customs, traditions, and artists. President Tatar expressed his pride in the artists who create works that represent their distinct Turkish Cypriot identity.
He noted that the works of Turkish Cypriot artists leave a significant impact on the country’s literature and art. President Tatar urged the younger generation to value art and called for state encouragement in art activities. He also pointed out that the embargo and restrictions imposed on the Turkish Cypriot people cannot prevent art from flourishing.
President Tatar concluded his speech by saying that Turkish Cypriot artists are a symbol of the struggle for the sovereignty of the country. He reiterated that the Turkish Cypriot people will continue to fight for its identity and presented the artists with awards.
