Ustel’s Protest Resolution: A Step Forward.

Cyprus’ Prime Minister, Ünal Üstel, has expressed his positive outlook toward the recent decline in illegal activities on the island. Speaking in a written statement, Üstel acknowledged the harm that illegal actions have on the people’s safety and property, destabilizing the economy and causing power cuts exceeding 24 hours. He added that the government will be open to dialogue with every stakeholder to overcome any problems in the future, as long as illegal activities come to an end.
The Parliament has passed a new law on this issue, enabling experts and stakeholders to consult and discuss the country’s National Energy Vision. This vision includes upgrading the existing power plants, ensuring uninterrupted energy supply, tackling environmental concerns, and transitioning to a cable supply and an interconnected system. The discussions should be carried out in the short term, focusing on making firm decisions to manage the country’s energy issues. Üstel stressed that the government will not allow empty slogans, baseless rhetoric, and chaos to stall reforms needed for sustainable progress.
He surmised his statement with an expression of gratitude towards the island’s prudent people, commending them for not supporting the attacks on state institutions and power cuts.
